The TMCM opera looks like it's moving forward for the Astoria Music Fest. Though this is the slow frustrating stage when it seems so far away all we're doing is the boring stuff - like securing rehearsal space. The next part is us freaking out because the show is in a week.
My I Thought You Would Be Funnier book is at the printer and should ship any day. BOOM! did a kick ass job in getting this book out.
Every week I post new gag cartoons, under the title Nihilarity, at the www.act-i-vate.com website.
Also, last week, I sold another cartoon to the New Yorker. I'm counting the days until I lose track of how many they've bought and when they've run. Some random checks came from Conde Nast as they've started selling some mugs and t-shirts of my cartoons. Such a trip. I love it.

What did you think of it?

The first story was the Little Red Riding Hood. The art was fantastic! The story was clever, but I think they spent too much time retelling the story we already know rather than focusing on the twist (or in this case "fractured" part). It gets a good score, but they really should have expanded on the idea rather wasting time with junk food jokes.
This problem was even more propionate with the Rumpelstiltskin story. The art and humor was cool in that John Kricfalusi or David DeGrand kind of way, but only had one panel for the fracture. It made me ask, that was it? He had trouble with baby's car seat? That is the least of a parents problems. How about the not getting enough sleep, the constant bottle feedings and not to mention the diapers. Then Rumpelstiltskin kills himself over frustration over the stupidity of the Princess. Eh.
The Real Princess was just wonderful. It twists at least three or four fairy tales together into own unique story. It was funny and beautiful. Probably the best story in the preview.
The Rapunzel story was hilarious.
I thought the Hey Diddle Diddle story was completely awesome ....I loved how the artist told the story through a new narrative and without using the words. BUT then it completely ruined the effect by using the last panel to retell it using the words, like it was saying, "here stupid, if you were not paying attention, here is how clever I am."
It is a nice looking book. I look forward to seeing the whole book in July.

The best part was that they took us out for sushi after. I'll go anywhere for free food.

I'm just preparing my first NY'er submissions package to send in next week; here's hoping the stars line up and I manage to hit the right note some day.
